Using kinetics as a strong theme for my jewellery making, I am inspired by vintage scientific equipment such as orreries, gyroscopes and weather vanes. Structure and form dominate my handmade silver pieces, while adorning them with traditional, but small scale scrolls. Astrology and astronomy have been influences on my previous work and remain strong within my practice, as well as the circle as a basis for my work as it holds a lot of symbolism.
The use of silver and oxidised silver highlights the contrast of clinical structures of linear form against the work inspired by traditional wrought iron weather vanes, scrolls and old style mechanical inventions.
My work focuses on an interactive concept because of the use of kinetics and movement. I intend the viewer to make their own decisions about the pieces: what it is, how it is worn and how it is interacted with.
